Amiga & AROS Amiga.org is organizing the first ever AmigaDE demo competition. Demos may be written in any language of preference, but the end result must be either compiled down to Virtual Processor code or must be Java Bytecode. The demos will be shown at the World of Amiga South East Show, which is being held in the UK on the 3rd of November 2001. Read more for more information regarding the Amiga Digital Environment and Amiga demos. Mike Bouma has the details.

AmigActive article about Elate
by Mike Bouma on Sun 9th Sep 2001 06:11 UTC

Elate is foundation upon which the Amiga Digital Environment is being build. Here`s a well done (over a year old) article by AmigActive in PDF format about the internals of the Amiga Digital Environment: http://www.amigactive.com/pdf/AA09_16-19_DevBox.pdf

Project codenamed "SHEEP"
by Mike Bouma on Sun 9th Sep 2001 06:23 UTC

Fellow Dutchman Wouter van Oortmerssen is busy on a project codenamed SHEEP. This scripting language will serve somewhat the same purpose as ARexx did on classic Amigas. Wouter is truly a genius when it comes to designing programming languages! (and he is pretty good Quaker as well. I don`t stand a chance when he`s around while playing multiplayer Quake online. ;) ) Read more here: http://www.amiga.com/press/zine/11-1-00/sheep/

I think you will see good examples of DE software appearing during the next year. So far, it is mostly small games with short development times. Serious programming is likely to start when version 1.1 of the SDK appears, in a month or two.
