Games Sony announced that version 2.0 of the PSP system software will be available for download today. The user agent is "Mozilla/4.0 (PSP (PlayStation Portable); 2.00)" (in contrast to the older hacked web browser's "SCEJ PSP BROWSER 0102pspNavigator"). If you can upload a picture of the new PSP web browser rendering the HTML version of OSNews, please post a link below.

Flash, the only truely cross-platform solution".

It might be cross-platform (kind of), but it's certainly not the best solution in most cases. Flash has intrinsic disadvantages which make it well, kind-a s*ck for most types of websites.

No. If it's powered by MSIE it won't display webpages correctly anyway. You got that slightly upside down.

They were linking 127.0.0.1, AKA 'localhost', even more useless than 10.*, 192.168.*, 172.16.*-172.31*.

Simply copy-pasting the link works. I guess Blogger doesn't allow hotlinking.

Link is broken, but I suspect it's based on the Oregano web browser as used on the PS2 and many a set-top box.

In other words, Flash/Java will be limited at best, CSS will be crap as will Javascript, and rendering of tables will be slow.

However, the fonts will look nice and antialiased.

Alright, I guess the blogger photos don't work well with a direct link. So I uploaded it to flickr. Hopefully this link will work... http://photos21.flickr.com/28989572_1f3446f6f0_o.jpg

Some of the new features are great. I hope homebrew development catch-up with these version soon! (unlikely... as versions 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 still no homebrew friendly... but well, I just "hope"... =] )

Ever thought that he might just have a Japanese PSP? That is the most logical explanation.

I did download the Japanese firmware because I have a Japanese PSP. And its not a fake screenshot. Why would I need to fake a screenshot? And I am not smoking anything.

Ok, here's another pics showing the menu of PSP web browser (i'm same guy who posted the other pic).
http://photos23.flickr.com/29014708_f98d7ebfa1_o.jpg

There is even tabs (it seems the limit is 3). The analog stick is like the mouse. There are 3 display modes for a site. One is normal and the page is not adjusted at all (its kind of like you can see part of it and you can scroll all over, left, right, up, down). 2nd mode is Just-Fit where the page width is adjusted to fit the PSP's screen and the 3rd mode is Smart-fit which reorders the content on the page so the page width matches the screen width. (this seems to be the slowest mode though). Not much else to say, it works pretty well so far.

I read somewhere that the main reason for the 2.0 release is top stop memstick boot. I'm all for kicking pirates (assholes like Paradox and the rest) but it would be interesting to still be able to do some OSS hacking on the PSP.

Just goto the japanese site and download it, make an "upgrade" folder in your psp's game folder, and open it up in your psp.

The coolest thing is that it now allows me to download podcasts! its über-sick.

Does WPA actually work for anyone? I tried to use it but it just claims to time out exchanging the keys. Two other systems on the network use WPA OK.
