I prefer a laptop over a small handheld computer like this. Portable computers are nice; however, after getting my first PDA I didn't take long to realize that once you hit a certain size, going smaller only makes things less useful.
It may be good for some people, but it's unlikely to be for any average computer consumer.
Nice surprise OQO !!!
We all waited for OQO 02 but the new OQO 01 is certainly a PLUS
.
Here is a web site that discusses in detail these handtop pcs: http://www.minipcs.com
"battery life is 3 hours"
Impossible. Maybe 3 hours while in sleep mode.
I am guessing the battry life is 20-40 mins. In addition, the display would not be as bright as it appears from the pics.
Moreover, to run windows xp they will have to implement a classic x86 machine with all these hundreds of instructions and simulate PCI bus and IDE controllers and all different kinds of interrupts even though they might not exist or might be unnecessary. This is not an option for handheld.
They would have been better off building their own machine, kinda used strong arm or intel xscale and compile Linux as a native os for their machine.
For the mean time, my Nokia phone browses the web just fine.
They are using 1Ghz crusoe. The only way to have x86 instruction set in a handheld is to emulate it =)

"... 2 hours of fairly non-demanding (Microsoft Word document) editing before the battery's fuel gauge indicated it was time for a recharge"
I'd be hard pressed to replace my trusty Psion series 5. The keyboard on the Psion is more like a somewhat miniturised laptop keyboard.
See: http://www.geek.com/hwswrev/pda/psionser5.htm - for example.
The keys have a decent amount of travel and it is practical to type up an essay on the machine. Psions forever!
