Very interesting. The idea of blogs looks so obvious today. But that time it was probably absolutely new.
A short Odoevsky biography is here:
http://www.litencyc.com/php/speople.php?rec=true&UID=5761
in russian:

PS television was really invented by russians
PPS I'm russian
PPPS I do _not_ like blogs
for instance, did you know that Russian dwarfs are the tallest dwarves on Earth?
(instance of a rather common kind of joke in Eastern Europe, who had to endure "we Russians invented everything" until it wasn't funny anymore - actually it was never funny since it came with an occupying army)
Anyway, this kind of thinking is not unique to russians. Every larger nation has it (no, I'm not going to point finger).
I agree with you that this way of thinking is not unique to russians. I have the impression that evey nation - no matter how small - thinks this way. Just ask the bulgarians who invented the electronic computer...
RE: russians are great...
"I thought that Al Gore invented the internet."
He didn't invent it. He just took the intiative in creating it.
Damn right. Need to keep up till people won't perpetuate lies :
http://www.sethf.com/gore/
Yes, that is true. I've heard that TV reciever was invented by Russian inventor on the municipal waste dump in Germany. Same with VHS, Personal Computers and so... so on.
But blogging?? Hmm... I'm sure that Egyptians were first. And the great inventors of all times were Mesopotamians, have a look:
http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/wheel.htm
And there were a guy, called Ciolkowsky - he has visions about races into space. Of coz, he wasn't Mesopotamian, he was Russian.
Another thing - I wonder which rockets crashes more often - from USA or Russia?
SUMMARIZING:
We should wait for the Chineese "last word" in the subject of rocket engineering (btw. their rockets are based on old Russian Soyuz-type rockets).
PS. Talking about China - they invented:
- printing
- paper
- missiles
- triangular sails (to sail to the wind, not only with the wind)
- dynamite
- and many more
PSS. So - which nation is the nation of REAL inventors?
For me - Mesopotamians ;-)
PST. Maybe we should complete a kind of list with inventions and try to find the most innovative nation on Earth? ;-)
China - Dynamite ????
You probable did not hear about some guy with funny name Nobel
http://nobelprize.org/nobel/alfred-nobel/biographical/timeline/inde...
Who, BTW, got his education in Russia.
P.S. I am Russian
P.P.S Every normal man IS proud of his country
>P.P.S Every normal man IS proud of his country
Yes! It's TRUE AT ALL! And it is nice, of coz.
But... important thing is to have a sense of humour!
Beeing proud of your country without being able to joke (from time to time) is not a good thing.
Remember - inventions are made by humanity, not nations.
PS. I'm Polish.
PSS. I'm as proud of my country, as I'm proud of any other. Does it really matter who invented what?
Russians also invented Cybernetics
and a LOT of other gr8 things.
But they didn't invent everything
I would say that Chineese are the most `inventive`
P.S The second most `inventive` are Russians ofcource
P.F I'm also Russian!
[russian in latin latters sucks]
Pret liudi! Mnogo vas zdes?
You forgot that those who made inventions that changed the face of the earth are Italians:
Experiments of Volta and Galvani (and French Ampere) brought us Electricity
Marconi invented Radio
Meucci invented telephone (altough Americans believe it was Bell)
What would be our life without these inventions? And dont forget geniuses like Da Vinci and Galilei and lots more as well.
No, no, you read some history.
A brazilian priest filled a patent requeriment in Italy a few years before Marconi's demonstration, both used the waves to transmit the little blinking lights.
By the way, brazilians invented the really most apreciated things...
*Samba(the music, not the smb share)
*Daily baths
*Cachaça(if you never tried it, run to a liquor store!)
*Airplanes (before thinking about Wright Brothers, remember that they used horses (!) once a time and never made a public demonstration, while Santos Dumont flew around Paris)
*Barbecues
And the list goes on and on and on
Post scriptum: I am brazilian
Post post scriptum: I'm not proud of any country, what an uncivilized concept!
The is ajoke in Russia about some study that has been done in several primary schools. Children have been asked to write some essay about elephants.
So Americans wrote "Elephants are really huge mammals..." (like amiricans' cars :-)
Indians one wrote "Elepants have a good character..."
Finally Russians wrote
"Russia is a motherland of elephants..."
Take it with humor people...
P.S. I'm Russian
P.P.S. Radio has been invented in Sp.Petersburg too ;-)
I think we have to classify the invention not by who first did it, but who made it mainstream enough or good enough to be extended...
so rockets stay with germans, phones, nuclear power with americans, radios with italians, planes with brazilians and french[after all, he was living in France]
but, they were all geeks, and geeks are a nation apart, so congratulations to us
radio was invented by jc bose , and indian
http://www.vigyanprasar.com/ham/JCBOSE1.htm
NO! they are discoverer, or thief, or... but NOT inventor. Why many people usually said "big Chinese's inventions", that simple they are a bigggg contry.
Question:
1 who are "invented" yang-yang?
Hmm, some one..., long long ago...
2 who are "invented" kung-fu?
Hmm, some one...,
answer: Indian, who bring Buddhism to China.
3 Did you know Acupuncture was invented by both India, Vietnamese, Europe not only Chinese
4 Chinese have claimed that they owned "Pascal Triangle", "pi", "zero number", and more and more... without exhibits.
Here, i'm not Russian.
And now, Russian, Europe, India... with fully Exhibits - their inventions:
1 pi
2 number 0
3 Pascal Triangle
...
Right. This thread is degenerating to the level of wild forest animals. I wish I had a butler who could filter pointless forum posts for me...
PS: I am Russian
PPS: I had no idea that so many Russians read osnews.
PPSP: OK, Popov invented the radio. Then what did he do with it? Nothing. So why are we proud of a guy who invented the radio and did nothing with his invention?
PPSP: OK, Popov invented the radio. Then what did he do with it? Nothing. So why are we proud of a guy who invented the radio and did nothing with his invention?
He used it for military communication purposes...
mmm...
He used it to communicate with military ships...
Read his biography
Actually TV-inventions looks like bad joke.
It was invented at least 4 times, and all that by russians.
1-st time in St.Petersburg, second - in Germany, and two remaining times in USA (search for "Zvorykin" with Google , and also search for biography of RCA founders - one of
them was *** immigrant from Russia).
I always love how people associate the achivements of individuals with nations and then elevate themselves with the same mere association.
To me, any "normal" person would see nationalism for what it is and NOT be proud of their stupid group membership for which they had no part in choosing.
