RISC OS Peter Naulls, the RISC OS developer behind, among other things, the Firefox port for RISC OS, has published a list of things that are likely, or less-likely, to happen in the world of RISC OS in 2006. "I'll suggest some projects that are both plausible and possible in a relatively short space of time. Whether they will be carried out is another matter entirely, and nothing should be read into these that I or anyone else intends to carry them out. One prediction I will make right now is that I expect developer support to continue to wane in 2006, with an increasingly frustrating general RISC OS situation, which for the first time in a long time, has only a little to do with technical restrictions."

RISC OS is used quite widly in the UK. Don't forget that. RISC OS probably has more users in the UK alone than BeOS/Zeta has worldwide.

as surely as Thom Holwerda needs his kernel recompiling

I don't compile kernels.

Can we please get anonymous comments switched off again? Or at least per-article disabling of anonymous comments.

Perhaps if the site would stop automatically logging certain users off after going to a new page (like me, using FF 1.0.7 on win xp without any changed settings compared to a week ago), just in case you haven't noticed a recent upsurge in anonymous postings.

But interesting article. Most of the predictions sound plausible. I still don't think I'll 'test' it out soon given RISC OS' apparent inherent legacy difficulties.

Especially (mostly) in education. Unfortunately, it's nigh on impossible to reach those users or leverage that user base. It's now stagnant.

Yes, my first experience with a computer was a Acorn system with RISC OS, and I still when can play with RISC OS, I think its a great Os, and brings back some child hood memories, reminds me of a time when i thought everything was simple and straight forward.

"RiscOS doesn't have a clue about where it's going, why it's going, and what it will do when it gets there. That's reality. I'd rather wear a pair of Eugenia's used knickers on my head, in public, naked in the snow, before offering my suggestions. But, as surely as Thom Holwerda needs his kernel recompiling, something must be done to address this. If they don't, they're deader than a dead thing. No, deader than that. Really, really, dead. Deader than a deep sea squid on the moon. I mean, not to rub the point home, but deader than Linux squeezed between drivers and codecs, Americans sense of proportion, and Robert Mugabe admitting he's a racist."

Can I be your friend? Seriously!

Lucky the article isn't about RiscOS then, isn't it?

ah the mistake a made a while ago, assuming that there was no other os with the word RISC in its name, so assuming riscOS and RISC OS were synonymous
