Hardware, Embedded Systems Dell launched on Wednesday a new generation of servers with Intel's latest dual-core server processors and new management tools. The new PowerEdge servers make up Dell's second batch of products that use dual-core Xeon chips from Intel. However, the earlier generation of servers, based on a chip code-named Paxville, weren't expected to be mass-market products. The PowerEdge 1950, 2900 and 2950, based on Intel's latest Xeon processor, known as Dempsey, will become the new bedrocks of Dell's server lineup.

I like our dell servers, they're great. I'm just hoping the new ones use less power.

Apparently you don't work for the gov't. PowerEdges are everywhere, at least at the fed level.

if we're any indication, they're very big in large educational instistutions, we have a ton of them. (that and suns).

one very big weak point however is console management. there's no comparing drac with sun's alom/scs, not to mention openboot.

Dell is 4th place in the world for server market share just behind #3 Sun.

http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS00153905

That link is old but it is broken down like this:

IBM - 29.7%
HP - 26.7%
Sun - 10.2%
Dell - 9.8%

Dell may even be in front of Sun now (in volume) becasue with the exception of this last quarter (Q1) they have had strong server growth.
