Java NetBeans IDE provides a wide variety of tools to support Java application development, but it is the Source Editor where you will spend most of your time. Given that fact, a lot of attention has been put into features and subtle touches to make coding faster and more pleasurable. This chapter covers the ins and outs of the Source Editor.

NetBeans 5.0 and 5.5 are quite OK, but it is the version 6.0 that will bring new, reworked, editor to NetBeans. Early build of v. 6.0 is already available and yes, it is *much* faster. Since it was very early build, I've removed it so I can't say about new/improved refactoring tools, etc, however I remember reading on Netbeans.org that many new features will be implemented (improved syntax coloring, etc, etc).

Wow! In that case, I can't wait until 6 comes out. However, until then, I am quite happy using 5. I've been very impressed with the advancements that NetBeans has made over the past couple of years. I am a happy user that just keeps getting happier.

Keep up the good work!
