The Fedora Project Board met this week to discuss issues surrounding the upcoming release of Fedora 7. Though originally scheduled for release on April 26, that date has now been moved back to May 24, dashing the development team's plan to debut the final release at this year's Red Hat Summit. One thing that Summit attendees will see, though, is the artwork that has been selected as Fedora 7's new theme.

That's a good idea. In fact, that's one of the main reasons why the artwork team in Fedora has a rule about not including version numbers in any of the artwork. I have send a note to fedora-art list about getting the older themes packaged in the later versions.

I hope they still include the install of both DE (Gnome&KDE) the direction Ubuntu is not my favorite. Fedora may have a few problems but RedHat is the standard for the Enterprise and the best test platform for the production environment.
I have used them all since 1999 and basically found the best home in Fedora...

Yes. There hasnt been any move to drop any desktop environments from the release. Only to separate the different spins to suit the preferences of end users who will use a particular desktop environment but not the other one.
For the general release of Fedora 7 (but not first couple of test releases due to other priorities), there is a plan to include a DVD spin which has every single package in the Fedora repository. This will include GNOME, KDE, Xfce, fluxbox etc etc. This is suitable for mass retail redistribution for folks who dont have good network or online access to install packages from a repository.
Also for those who prefer a single CD, there will be installable live cd images available. Perhapos more importantly, the entire set of tools to build a custom or derivative distribution is now available as Free and open source software.

PS: It's Fedora 7, not FC7 since one of the biggest changes for this release is the merge of core and extras software repositories.

WHat is the real problem? If you are using kubuntu and you want to try gnome, installing ubuntu-desktop from synaptic or via apt-get will give you gnome.
If you are using ubuntu (gnome) and would like to try kde, sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop will let you try out kde.
It really isn't that hard.

He didn't say there was a problem, he just said he doesn't like Ubuntu, and that he's been a loyal RH/Fedora user for about 8 years. On forums, you don't have to give any explanation for why you feel a certain way. If you feel the need, you tell people about your preferences, and if others agree, they mod you up.
It's dumb, but many people take comfort in the fact that others might possibly care about their personal preferences. It alleviates the anxiety associated with the realization that most people wouldn't notice if you suddenly dropped dead.
I suggest that everybody think of some way that they can use their individual skills to do something they enjoy that will make a positive impact on other people's lives. Because when it's all said and done, life is about being happy and making others happy, not about which Linux distribution you prefer.

Sort of has a dreamy fantasy type look to it, pretty and peaceful. Reminds me of some of the artwork on digitalblasphemy (hey, if you want some uber-l337 green on black matrix/ghost in the shell background to make yourself feel cool, go ahead... ;-)

love the new wallpaper,, but i have to say Fedora is doing the right job by delaying T2 of F7, i myself can wait, this Release has to be just about spot on, if not perfect, as Rahul has said, if people don't like the wallpaper, they can always change it in a matter of a few seconds,

I'm an Ubuntu user but I must say that I'm enamored with Fedora's art team. there stuff is fresh and new and just a bit quirky. I have no issues with Ubuntu's color scheme its the hohum theme that gets me. Fedora has been doing a great job with this. I know what I'm going to be installing on my third harddrive. Thats not saying I'm moving back to Fedora cause frankly there are other issues I have with the distro, but I ill definately use it once in a while.

There is something wrong with a distribution that loses a high profile user (yes, I mean ESR) then announces the following week which skin will paint their next release.
Yes the balloons are beautiful, but I'd rather fetch the wallpaper myself and have support for my FC4 system. The install is only 2 or 3 years old after all.

Lack of man power. Maintaining a legacy distribution is much harder than you think especially when it comes to bandwith. Since there is another alternative like CentOS (a clone of RHEL based on Fedora itself), legacy is no longer useful. FYI, Debian dropped support of their Woody version.

If you have analyzed the letter and read the fedora-devel-list, you will find out ESR shot himself in the foot and he was no man enough for asking help to fix his own mess. Same scenario can happen on any operating system, it happened to be Fedora which was already an easy target of criticism for opportunists. To quote a poster, Nobody cares about ESR so it is time to move on.
