In the News Application virtualization veteran Citrix, who last year purchased Xensource, today announced their intention to deliver XenDesktop, based on their thin client technology, for the iPhone. While similar applications exist in the form of VNSea, Citrix is a major player in virtualization and this certainly bodes well for those who want to connect to remote devices via their iPhone. Citrix demo'ed their wifi-only application at the Citrix Application Delivery Conference in Australia this week.

Virtualization?

I guess virtualization is a lot stronger word than I would use for such technology...

In any case, it's definitely misleading.

Edit: Oh, it's worse than I thought: "demonstrate an Apple iPhone running Windows XP" - WTF? these people are cracked if they think Windows is "running" on the iPhone.

Agree. The title should be changed to say "Citrix to Provide Windows Desktop Remoting on iPhone". Which goes to show you: Tech reporters are teh suck.

I hope you're not referring to us. Our newsbit reads correctly to me.

Actually, I believe your title is inaccurate. There is no virtualization involved and there is no claim of virtualization in the original article.

Exactly and Citrix's main technology is not virtualization but rather thin client and Remote Desktop type technology.

Nevertheless, propagating misleading titles is as much wrong as creating a misleading title. I'd say you should've added a "source claims" or even "misleadingly claims" note at least in the news' description.

While you're subtle/dry method of questioning the reporting by ZDnet was not entirely lost on many of us... I guess not everyone can appreciate it ;)

Tomcat,

This shows you what happens when you buy a company and then rebrand your existing products around the name of the company you bought (Xen). We call it complete confusion.

They ported their RDP client, which is good news. Now if they can get it to work with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, the iPhone may become quite attractive as a small "road warrior" platform to get access to some of those corporate apps I need on the road.

What does citrix have to do with virtualization? Did they introduce a virtualization product while I wasn't looking? Send that one back to the editor please...

Does anyone know if there's a native RDP client for the iPhone ?

If there is then iPhone can remotely run Windows apps off an XP terminal server such as ThinServer XP
