Window Managers "Scrotwm is a small dynamic tiling window manager for X11. It tries to stay out of the way so that valuable screen real estate can be used for much more important stuff. It has sane defaults and does not require one to learn a language to do any configuration. It was written by hackers for hackers and it strives to be small, compact and fast."

I swear, I thought the title was Scrotum. What an awful name for a WM.

It's a perfect name for a window manager. "Tries to stay out of the way". Get it? ;)

A perfect example of the naive "If we build it they will come" mentality of some FOSS projects which think they can ignore marketing matters completely, without consequences.

I've been noting names like this for several years now, just for personal amusement. And in my opinion, the grand prize still goes to "PodFuk":

http://atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~machek/podfuk/podfuk.html

The project was mentioned on LKML some years ago, and it was politely put to the author, whose first language was not English, that the name conjures up images of fornication with vegetables. There was some discussion on the matter, the general consensus ending up that it didn't really matter. Try that sometime at your favorite Fortune 500 company... ;-)

well, seeing that the author is czech, "podfuk" stands for "scam" in czech .)

I just got done laughing. I thought the same thing. I didn't know it was possible to make a window manager with a nutsack.

It's not the first software project to reference the nutsack. Anyone else remember the NES emulator NESticle?

In unrelated news, Linus Torvalds releases "prudewm". Downloads overwhelm the servers within minutes.

Why reinvent the wheel and give it a terrible name? What's wrong with dwm?

I misread it as "scratwm" at first, conjuring images of a sabertooth squirrel as the mascot.

Speaking of rodents, this wm is reminiscent of ratpoison.
