Windows According to NeoWin, the second service pack for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 has gone gold, or RTM in Microsoft Land. "Microsoft has finally finished and compiled the RTM version of Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008. The full version string being 6.0.6006.18005, which company officials have confirmed is the final RTM version of SP2."

Of course, Windows Server 2008 SP2 is not the same thing as Windows Server 2008 R2 (Windows Server with NT kernel v6.1). Windows Server 2008 R2 service packs will be versioned separately, as in "Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1".

Also, the R2 release is not to be confused with Windows Server 2008 S2 EP1. That's the episode where Joey gets his hand stuck in the domain controller.

If you want Windows Server Astromech Edition, that's Windows Server 2008 R2-D2. Just don't get Windows Server R5-D4; that release has a bad motivator.

The motivator is fixed in SP1, EP IV Special Edition.
