Podcasts The podcast almost didn't go ahead this week after a number of technical issues leaving me on an aging Mac Mini G4 that struggles to run GarageBand (which is why there's no music this week, I had to keep the edit simple). Appropriately, we discuss old software, our dissatisfaction with netbooks, and Windows 7's pricing.

I've read a post on Amigaworld from a member of Hyperion (makers of Amiga OS4.1) where they say the've abandoned the Mac Mini project, although intrestingly the Mac MIni is mentioned on the MorphOS (Amiga type OS) faq page http://www.morphos.de/faq.html as a possible future hardware candidate.

Wouldn't Audacity be a bit better-suited than GarageBand for creating a podcast? There's an OS X version last I checked, and it would probably be less resource-intensive than GB.

Windows 7 isn't faster than XP on netbooks

It is OK that Thom loves it that much, but XP still leaner, faster and better suited for netbooks.

One thing that the software industry sometimes doesn't seem to "get", is that there is such a thing as "good enough". Microsoft and other commercial vendors *need* to sell you something newer and supposedly better. FOSS authors think that their new work is just so cool that everyone will just *have* to have it.

We're past "Second System Syndrome" and well into 3rd, 4th, and 5th System Syndrome. Microsoft, ahead of this curve, as usual, is offering 7th System Syndrome at a "discount".
