Privacy, Security, Encryption Blackberry phones in the United Arab Emirates recently received a text from Etisalat, a major provider in the UAE, prompting for users to download and install an update to enhance performance. It was an ill radio wave that brought that text to phones because it turns out that the "update" downloaded was really software designed to collect received messages and send them back to a central server: essentially spyware.

What's the name of this unexplained fetish, where you want to have the news on the near exact time as it happened. If somebody had read this a week ago, instead of today, would his life be any different? Does you life make a sharp turn for the worse, if you don't stay up to date with the trivia of the day?

They had a monopoly in that country* when I stayed there (01~04)... I'm not surprised about the big-brother move, UAE is quite brotherly, deceptive on certain occassions




* wiki says a new provider began from 2007; till then govt had near-exclusive control over the telecommunications
