When I see linux offered on the front page then I'll really believe they are supporting Ubuntu.
Also try anywhere else but the US, Dell will probably not sell to a consumer.
Isn't Dell the only major player even offering Linux right now? They're smart enough to realize that it's not ready for mass adoption. They're not going to push it to all users.
Desktop Linux is ready for adoption. The masses are not ready to adopt desktop Linux
On servers and mobile phones Linux has already been adopted. Edited 2010-07-29 21:16 UTC
As someone whose used/tried various versions for well over a decade, I love it as the basis for my Palm Pre but it's sadly disappointing as a desktop. It always seems just a little behind.
I think it will continue to be successful in niche/specific areas but will never grow on the desktop until several factors are overcome, including ease of upgrading individual apps.
"lad" should be "land" I am thinking.
I'm not willing to give SJVN a free web hit.
I think that's happening in the US. I've browsed quickly through their site, but there's no Linux offer from Dell in either Italy or Germany. They sell a lot of 32-bit Windows 7 on 64-bit cpu based machines.
