The whole situation is quite complicated, no wonder it has created a lot of confusion, even on OSnews
The galaxy S4 is actually 2 devices, that are are quite different on the inside. The I9500 and the I9505. The one the Teamhacksung guys were referring to is the I9500. Teamhacksung are the CM maintainers of mainly the *exynos* powered Samsung devices. And Exynos powered Samsung devices are *a pain* to maintain. Quallcomm on the other hand provide quality code for their chips, so I9505, if anything like the Galaxy S3 Quallcomm versions, will be easy to maintain.
The original article was not completely false, it just made an overly broad generalisation. A better conclusion: if you want an *AOSP* based custom rom, dont buy phones with Samsung *SOCs*
If TeamHackSung will/can not provide an *AOSP based* ROM for the *I9500*, nobody will. And they probably will not, since they all had enough from Samsung.
I9505 on the other hand will probably run CM very well, but for that we have to thank Quallcomm, not Samsung.
Which the i9500 exynos is most likely meant for, it is valid that Samsung does not provide propper sources for their devices, so if you want to run latest android on your device, even when Samsung dropped support after the device is older than a year, you should stay away from Samsung devices.
