ecos is a embedded os aimed for cellphones afaik.
And it's sponsored by redhat.

Not anymore. RedHat fired all their ecos engineers last year and some of those out-of-work people formed eCosCentric. The only thing RedHat do for ecos right now is that the redhat website is still hosting the project, that's it.

You will also notice that ecos 2.0 is under a "modified" GPL licence, because plain GPL licence is problematic in embedded environment. Which kind of reinforced IBM's point (see their old interview by the S/390 guy) that GPL embedded linux is a dead end.
