That's Page 2 items. They were moved from the side pane into the main view.

I think it should be possible to make those items always visible via preferences. I find myself clicking those stories too much.

Hmm what's "page 2"? If it's just "older stories", I don't really get the point of posting them between the "newer stories", so I assume it's something else?

Page 2 is an idea taken from MacRumors, where less important, sometimes less credible news goes. It allows the editors to keep up news flow, but generally not annoy everybody with the 100th review of the latest Ubuntu ;)
