Conversations I'm beginning to believe I am imagining the whole thing, but has Linux' Market share dropped by about half today http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=10 figures certainly seem to have changed dramatically...and are *backdated*.

Although having checked Links like these I'm tempted to say something is going on.

anyone any idea why such a dramatic change in figures has occurred.

Conversations Its the end of the month and I'm looking at how my favorite kernel is getting along on the usual trend sites http://marketshare.hitslink.com/. I know its not a *true* representation of any real figures although it does successfully show trends. The fact that the numbers differ wildly between the various market share sites is just one example of this.

but this is the thing, between *years* those people using Linux has risen roughly from 15% 2 years ago to 45% last year to 100% this year. Even with the modest figures of hitlink. It shows a move from 1/200 using Linux to 1/100.

Vista by comparison is showing slightly over 1% but has as expected steady growth, although less than I suspect most people would have predicted...Although SP1 is coming soon!?

I won't even attempt to understand whats going on with Apple. Its a growth of 40% over three years. Although I think that understates the fact that Apple is attracting new converts again to its once stagnated market of faithfu

Conversations I'm not, of course. But I do draw the line at being called anti-Linux, since Linux one of the most important things in my life. I am very pro-Linux, and that's an understatement. Which is why I dislike religious zealots, such as you, damaging our movement, with piss poor advocacy. You make us all look like a bunch of psychotic yahoos. I don't buy your "pro computing" facade, BTW. You are a religious fanatic. There is really no other way to put it. I've tried to put it more diplomatically in the past. But this statement is more accurate.by sbergman27

Linux/GNU/BSD/Solaris/Apple or whatever you personal *kernel* of choice is. The OS itself comes from a verity of Different sources, and is driven by different ideals; Motivation be it Political or Money, and leaders of great influence. Its shocking that communities are so divided and yet in reality are symbiotic; have complimentary goals...fight over a few % market share not the 95% enjoyed by Microsoft.

Conversations Just look in this very thread, where cyclops is ripping sbergman27 a new one with each and every one of his posts, while sbergman27 is trying to play nice. That's what I'm talking about. cyclops' devotion to GPL/RMS/FSF is so strong, that it's akin to religious devotion. His furor is what you'd be hearing from a devout Muslim if he perceived that someone verbally attacked Mohammed (remember the uproar regarding Mohammed being mocked in a Danish comic strip?), or a Christian being outraged at someone questiong Christ as the true Lord and Savior.

Its late I'm tired. I used the term Microsoft Zealot for the first time today, and felt dirty. I always thought the term zealot was extreme...I still do, but something is seriously messed up, and I'm now part of that problem. OS-News for me is now "No your the zealot"
