so, the best would be a kind of database where each "file" is stored with a host of predefined data, but allso allows the user to add more data?
and then have a search system that allow you to basicly filter these files based on all this "metadata"?
sounds somhow familiar...
timeline:
give me every file created or modified between date x and date y, sorted by increasing time. ignore all file-types except text files.
network dependency graphs?
