Nothing really that special, one uses SQLite and a wrapper is written around it (CoreData), and Beagle uses C# and IIRC, the Berkley DB.
Edit: And if you actually spent some time, you would know that I am a Mac user - god forbid actually going to mt blog and reading that, in all its glory.
