Hmm, considering that some of these things have been used for 20 years instead of being ripped out and re-written says alot about the original authors. They work and do what they are supposed to. THats like saying Windows sucks because its been using the same gui since Win95. Your right. You cant compare Windows and Linux. On one hand you have an OS that has cost BILLIONS of dollars to develop and has the worst security history of any OS on record. On the other hand you have an 2 OSes (BSD and Linux) that were developed largely by voluteers that rivals or surpasses any commercial OS every written. You are absolutely right. THere is no way Windows can compare to Linux.
