Intel ExtremeTech was able to get an exclusive peak at Intel's newest quad core processor, the Core 2 Extreme Quad E6700. After running through the gauntlet of 3DMark and content creation tests, among others, the quad core CPU boasts impressive performance results, particularly in video and 3D tests. According to the article, video creators and 3D animation artists should probably start saving up.

"Was your laser thermometer aimed at the CPU core?

All test results show the opposite. The only AMD CPU's that are colder than C2D are "Energy Efficient" Athlon series with 35W TDP"

But also remember, MAX TDP ratings don't always map to real world, check out this article. The "non-efficient" 3800+ is actually really effecient.

from the article "Intel's release of Core 2 may have stolen AMD's performance-per-clock thunder, but AMD retains its advantage in performance-per-watt when including the platform."
