I disagree. I have an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4270 with a PIII-400, 6GB Harddisk and 256MB Ram. I run Xubuntu 7.04 on it and it runs great. Even when using OpenOffice it is still responsive.
I had Win XP on it before and it also works well.
