It's called "public beta" guys...
Public beta actually allows a lot of potential customers who have never heard of, seen, or paid for a previous product to actually get to try what you're offering.
Another advantage of Public beta OS is that a lot of techies love to play, and enjoy playing with OS's before release, and some will even go as far as reporting bugs, this is also another good way to get interest in your product.
It really is a shame to close off beta and RC testing for products such as OS's that will get hammered in a lot of different areas by different people, the more testing ahead of release the better.
Anyway, best of luck on your launch.
