Sorry, I forgot to mention that, it was an R500-series chip, the X1300 card. It is definitely a supported chipset, and I did get 3D acceleration from this driver. I did end up downgrading back to the stable 8.40.4 driver in the end because it just gave me much better results. I'm still hoping that the open source drivers can bear fruit within the next year or two.
