
Many of us grew up with the idea of the component audio system. A receiver (or a separate preamplifier and amplifier), tuner (radio), record player, tape deck, and later on a CD player. It's just nostalgia. If you use test equipment good digital amps are clearly better at reproducing the signal. Modern digital hardware is also way more accurate than our messy biological ears. Compare 24b resolution to the simple effect of having someone else in the room altering the acoustic paths simply by the presence of their body.
