Convicted killer Hans Reiser led police on Monday to what he said was the body of his wife in the Oakland hills, just two days before he was to be sentenced for first-degree murder, authorities said.

Shooting or stabbing someone can be argued from the perspective of a crime of passion. All it takes is a second to pull the trigger or to thrust a knife into someone. On the other hand, strangulation requires that you constantly apply force while the victim struggles to get free and thus requires a lot more determination. To strangle your wife for seconds/minutes while ignoring her struggles ... that's murder.
I hope they throw the book at him.
