Features, Office OpenOffice.org 2.4.0 is a free, open source alternative to Microsoft's Office application suite. It is fantastic if you need basic office applications such as a word processor or spreadsheet at no cost. However, large organisations and power users may be disappointed by its lack of features and support. Read the full review here.

Switching from WordPerfect

I'm trying to make the bold move from WordPerfect to OpenOffice. Doc conversion isn't really a big problem, but OpenOffice is just so foreign to me. Many of the simple task I take for granted in WordPerfect aren't so simple in OO.o.

So far I've been able to achieve most of the things in OO.o that I do in WordPerfect albeit slightly more convoluted in my opinion. It's getting easier. Footers aren't as easy to deal with and I miss reveal codes.

Personally, I wish somebody would copy WordPerfect as an open source office program. Better yet just copy all the good things from Office and WordPerfect and create a really great office suite.
