Intel Netbooks using the forthcoming Intel Atom N280 are expected to tip up between the second and third quarters of 2009. The N280 is the follow-up to the Netbook class leading N270 Atom CPU that finds its home in practically every netbook on the market today.

The actual CPU doesn't look like much of an improvement, perfromance wise. What may be more interesting is the Intel GN40 chipset that goes with it which, bloggers seem to think, will do HD playback. Yeah that's right, HD playback on a 10" screen. Ooooh.

Nvidia have a competing chipset which will do Blu-Ray. If you can find a matching drive, that is.

Also, I have heard rumors that the new chipset will rdeuce power consumption, which would actually be useful.
