Any discussion about GNOME vs. KDE is sure to end in tears. It's basically impossible to discuss which of these two Free desktop environments is better than the other, mostly because they cater to different types of people, with different needs and expectatotions. As such, Bruce Byfield decided to look at the two platforms from a different perspective: if we consider their developmental processes, which of the two is most likely to be more successful in the coming years?

Weird tablet', tweeted Bob Summerwill, listed as a senior software engineer at EA Canada, in a reply to a tweet posting a link about EA's no-Wii U news. 'Nintendo are walking dead at this point'." The Wii U is turning into the 21st century's Virtual Boy.

"In NixOS, the entire operating system - the kernel, applications, system packages, configuration files, and so on - is built by the Nix package manager from a description in a purely functional build language. The fact that it's purely functional essentially means that building a new configuration cannot overwrite previous configurations. Most of the other features follow from this." Interesting approach. A Linux distribution, sure, but with some very refreshing ideas about system configuration.

Appfour added, among other features, C/C++ support to its new version of AIDE. From Android-IDE, "Now you can write parts of your app or your whole app in C/C++ on your device. AIDE supports the Standard Android NDK toolchain (GCC 4.6 + Bionic, STL, ...). No changes are necessary if you want to build an app developed on a PC with Eclipse. C/C++ development is fully integrated: Build errors appear in the error list and files can easily be navigated to with Go to file. The editor supports C/C++ syntax highlighting."

Ars nails it: "The answer is that Google did announce what amounts to a fairly substantial Android update yesterday. They simply did it without adding to the update fragmentation problems that continue to plague the platform. By focusing on these changes and not the apparently-waiting-in-the-wings update to the core software, Google is showing us one of the ways in which it's trying to fix the update problem."

Glass is getting some love at Google I/O as well. New applications have been released - Facebook, Twitter, Evernote, Elle, Tumblr, and CNN. Perhaps more interesting: the newly announced Google Glass Developer Kit will allow offline applications and direct hardware access - great for hacking and expanding Glass' potential. This kit will really allow hackers to put Glass through its paces.

Qt 4.5 is way faster than 4.4. KDE releases compiled with Qt 4.5 (some distros offer KDE 4.2 with Qt 4.5, officially KDE only targets Qt 4.5 with KDE 4.3).
Qt 4.5 also offers that. If your distro doesn't do it right, blame them for broken packaging.
Then it's your fault for not knowing which specific sub-set of MPEG features are found on the PS3. HandBrake offers a PS3 preset, btw.

First of all, GNOME and KDE are already translated into many languages. It's launchpad that corrupts the translations!

Canonical also doesn't put translations upstream. Putting tranlation work into Launchpad is like throwing gold bars into a black hole. The only good way to support the tranlation teams is by going directly to the software project. Big projects like KDE have translation teams for each language (usually one team for apps and one for documentation). Contact them and ask where you can help.
KDE has also a very easy to use translation app called Lokalize. It's just as easy as Launchpad, just without the web browser.
When you use distros that don't have the man-power to do the testing, it's your fault. Debian, SUSE, and Red Hat have this man power. I've excluded Fedora from that list (even though it's by Red Hat), because it's bleeding edge on purpose.
Canonical has a lot of hype around it, but it does not have a lot of man-power. Up until now there's only a single person employed by Canonical to do everything KDE-related (Jonathan Riddell). Only recently there was a second person hired (the Gwenview developer), but he only works on the new notification system and his work won't show up until Kubuntu 9.10.
I don't care whether or not I recieve the blessing of an answer by you. :-P
