What you've said about windows is not right.
When graphics driver crash in windows it will
1. suddenly restart the system or
2. Great you with BSOD and then restart.
That holds true on all windows including windows 7 because it happened to me on my laptop with GF 8700GT Go GPU.
In both cases it is horrible.
But you are right linux is still buggy and given to customers with no warranty or obligations and you know that; so don't do productivity on it.
