Steve, take a deep breath and calm down. You seem to have been under a lot of stress lately and you're not acting rationally.
Seriously, wireless broadband is a pain in the ass on any platform. Even when it "works" it doesn't actually work well. I like to liken mine to having the speed of a 19200 modem but none of the reliability.
$529!? For cellular wireless broadband? Holy crap they're ripping you off over there. My, admittedly prepaid, wireless broadband cost me ~$50 including the Huawei modem thing and 5 hours of airtime. Works flawlessly with Linux (Ubuntu) I might add.
