Getting data into (and then out of) Web-based services can be tricky or even impossible. Google today publicly committed to liberating user data in all of the company's products, making it easy to switch services.

Most of google's services already allow you to export your data, but there are a few that don't.
I am particularly unimpressed by the fact that there is no export or backup feature built-into google sites so that one you get your info in there, it would be a nightmare of manual labor to get it out of it.
So, if this really happens, it is a major step forward for google and other companies ought to be paying attention and commit to doing the same.
Nonetheless, I will hold off on the accolades until google has actually delivered on its promise.
