They're giving it away because it's crap. That's why. The way to solve the parallel programming crisis is to get rid of multithreading. We must reinvent computers as we know them because the CPU was not designed with parallelism in mind. The CPU is a 150-year old idea that started with Babbage and Lovelace. It belongs in the Smithsonian, right next to the analytical engine, buggy whip and the slide rule. And the GPU is not the answer either since it's not universal. Both CPU and GPU are doomed. It's time to abandoned the failed computing paradigm of the baby-boomer century and forge a new computing future.
