It isn't much of a stretch and doesn't take much thought, which is what most people are doing--not thinking much. It makes almost no sense that a company as good at money as Apple are to throw away money by abandoning.
The company makes purchases and investments for good reason. They have some of the best financial people in any business. There is no good reason to believe that there isn't a PowerVR-derived GPU portion in the SoC.
