In a move that should surprise nobody, Apple has sort-of admitted to iPhone antenna problems in their press conference this morning, claiming it affects a small number of users, but they claim to be working hard to fix the problems that they have confirmed. They've offered free bumpers (that have until now been a $30 accessory) to all iPhone buyers, and are offering to waive any restocking fees for anyone who wants to return their iPhone 4. Whether or not there's going to be a hardware fix for future iPhones, Steve Jobs says he doesn't know yet whether that will happen.

I imagine there's a bunch of people out there wondering where some of their buddies have gone, or why their messages aren't getting responses, because this isn't documented anywhere." Google really messed this up. Such a dick move.

The Tizen Greek Community has some screenshots of a very recent build of Tizen running on a Samsung GT-i8800. It looks wholly unremarkable.

Joint statement to The Next Web from Microsoft and Google: "Microsoft and YouTube are working together to update the new YouTube for Windows Phone app to enable compliance with YouTube's API terms of service, including enabling ads, in the coming weeks. Microsoft will replace the existing YouTube app in Windows Phone Store with the previous version during this time." Good to know these children stopped acting like little pricks. Can we have full Google support in Windows 8 now, please?

Yahoo is acquiring Tumblr, the microblogging and social networking website, for $1.1 billion USD. Tumblr offers little revenue but lots of eyeballs if Yahoo can monetarize them. Now Yahoo is bidding for Hulu, the streaming video service. After years of ineffective responses while Google, Facebook, and others took large chunks of the online advertising market, Yahoo is fighting back. Can Yahoo reignite the momentum it had at the turn of the century? What do you think?

In several places around the web, the company is replacing the existing 'Talk' platform with a new one called 'Hangouts' that sharply diminishes support for the open messaging protocol known as XMPP (or sometimes informally Jabber), and also removes the option to disable the archiving of all chat communications. These changes represent a switch from open protocols to proprietary ones, and a clear step backward for many users." That's why I always say: only suckers trust companies.

According to an anonymous HTC executive cited by WSJ, the crucial HTC One is selling 'pretty good so far'. The executive revealed that HTC sold about five million One units since launch, a performance that is deemed encouraging. However, sales have been limited by the persisting supply issues that still plague the production of the HTC One." Finally some good news for HTC. Five million units amidst supply constraints is very impressive.

"Sony gave the PS4 50% more raw shader performance, plain and simple (768 SPs @ 800MHz vs. 1152 SPs & 800MHz). Unlike last generation, you don't need to be some sort of Jedi to extract the PS4's potential here. The Xbox One and PS4 architectures are quite similar, Sony just has more hardware under the hood. Weâll have to wait and see how this hardware delta gets exposed in games over time, but the gap is definitely there. The funny thing about game consoles is that itâs usually the lowest common denominator that determines the bulk of the experience across all platforms. On the plus side, the Xbox One should enjoy better power/thermal characteristics compared to the PlayStation 4. - Is not locked down to a craptastic piece of software like iTunes
yeah, itunes isn't the nicest software to use on windows, in some ways i hate it. but the underlying tech of it is great. but you got the issue wrong. with android you are locked out. with android you can't just go to a videostore and buy and put some tv shows or a movie on your device. your locked out of video, and thats how i felt when i had a droid. being locked out of the video market is the main reason why one would want to avoid android completely.
- Voice search that works for anything in the phone
- Integrates nicely with Google Voice and other Google apps (free texting FTW)
i'll give you that. google voice is perfectly integrated with android. but i can get google talk support with a 3rd party app on my new iphone 4. voice search was kinda cool, but i rarely used it. and never ever used the voice search in public. i mean, lets just announce to the whole world what i am searching for lol.
- Google maps/navigation and notification bar vastly superior on Android
google maps on my droid would take forever to start up the gps on it. i don't know if i got a bad phone or if it was a software issue. sometimes it wouldn't locate me, and i would have to restart the phone. this is totally frustrating. on the bright side, android is one of the fastest booting phones i have tried. my iphone4 instantly finds you via gps. as soon as you hit the google maps button you are located. thats how it should work. i don't get google navigation on iphone like android has, but i can download waze or some other navigation app. maps is usable enough to find your way, and it always works. i miss the notification bar of the droid, that was pretty cool. the iphone will show little numbers besides the icons to show you how many new messages or events you have. that works well enough for me, and i wouldn't call androids method "vastly" superior.
in reguards to the antenna "flaw" i havent been having any issues with mine. yes i do notice the bars drop when i do the "death"grip. with or without my case the bars still drop. but it still works fine. in fact i get service in basements where my work phone doesn't work. In general, i am much happier with my iphone than i am my droid. i switched from the droid because the alarm would sometimes just fail to work for no reason.
