I can't remember the last time gentoo was "exciting". All the odd stuff happens in other places mostly - except for assogiate :p
Of course one can make gentoo very "exciting" - but you can also make it very stable and bland. I'm doing the latter, though I admit to be running Compiz.
Oh I probably shouldn't forget paludis, but it's not in "stable" so I haven't switched to it. I almost never go past "stable" when it comes to system-stuff.
