I think it might actually be nice to have the base toolkits for running the most popular free software installed by default.
Especially since the software center doesn't tell novice users that one application depends on GTK+ and another on Qt.
Yesterday my wife, who uses the GIMP so sporadically has to re-learn it every time, thought she might install another (simpler) graphics program. She found KolourPaint in the software center ... but there on our home network it was taking too long to download, so she gave up.
Probably the software center should have some way of recommending software based on the smallest download size / dependency list, but all the same, had Qt already been there, it would be a much smaller problem.
