Fedora is basically the testing distro for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Ubuntu is an optimized fork of Debian.
Mageia is a fork of Mandriva.
OpenSUSE provided the meeting place since it the only distro that was without relatives; it needed the home field advantage.
