I think you're a bit too quick to agree with Sony. Sure, banning people who cheat or pirate games is fair, but what Sony says sounds more like they will ban anyone who rooted PS3. Including people who did it to run homebrew or Linux, not for cheating. It's not yet clear if they can actually do so, though.
In other words -- either homebrew/Linux or PSN.
