The only time I would buy an expensive painting is if I could turn around and sell it to some idiot who would pay significantly more than what I bought it for.
Of course, it's an investment. But also something nice to look at.
As for watches, my watch costs around $30 and has 10x the functionality of a Rolex, and will probably last for years too. So yes, a Rolex is a waste of money, IMHO.
Don't make this into a mechanical watches versus electronic war...
