FreeBSD The FreeBSD Release Engineering Team is pleased to announce the availability of FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE. This is the third release from the 8-STABLE branch which improves on the functionality of FreeBSD 8.1 and introduces some new features. The 8.2 is current stable release and it recieves mostly updates and fixes, the true battle ground for new features is 9-CURRENT branch, after 7.4/8.2 branches has been released, the FreeBSD development team will now focus on 9.0-RELEASE which should occur about May/June with all the latest ZFS v28 (with deduplication and so), and lots of other new and shiny features.

Also ZFS version on FreeBSD 8.2 is now v15, so we miss only these features (which deduplication may seem most caluable):

v16 - stmf property support
v17 - Triple-parity RAID-Z
v18 - Snapshot user holds
v19 - Log device removal
v20 - Compression using zle (zero-length encoding)
v21 - Deduplication
v22 - Received properties

Also, You can even now set up a 9-CURRENT FreeBSD with latext ZFS v28 and check how it works, check this:
