Fedora Core Good news from the Linux world. Fedora has announced its intention to drastically alter the file system layout of its Linux distribution. The plan's been out for a while, but was brought to my attention by Brian Proffitt (still the best name ever) over at ITWorld. The gist is to move all binaries to /usr/bin, and all libraries to /usr/lib and /user/lib64.

Yes, this is exactly correct. This is only a feature proposal. Anyone with a Fedora account can make a feature proposal; all the existence of a feature proposal proves is that one person with a Fedora account thinks something would be a neat idea.

It's not a Fedora feature unless it's accepted by FESCo after their review process.

God, I hope this is in fact the case. Fedora *DOES NOT* need a repeat of the Gnome 3 Disaster.
