I know that probably 90% of all android apps that do not follow the standard guidelines for UI design are either lazy ports (like instagram), poorly thought UI, or not even thinking about the user experience in the first place. But, on the other side of the spectrum, we something as Windows Phone, which is very consistent, but very little customizable. A windows phone is identical to every other windows phone on the market.
I'd rather pay the price of inconsistency for the benefit of being able to think in new ways to display information and interact with the user.
