Humanity is still so stupid anyway. It was the later half of the 20th century when Turing was charged for being homosexual and castrated, and that's still quite hard to believe, not the 1500s, less than two decades before i was born and during my parent's lifetime.
I think thanks to the internet, the world has become an enormously better place, where this kind of stupid attitudes by governments, media or other groups can be condemned publicly.
