"What a long, sad slide for Ubuntu. Bugs, Unity, and now this."
I love how people pretend Ubuntu was perfect before Unity and that things went to hell only after Unity arrived.
Sorry folks, but X.org and PulseAudio have been ruining the party even before Unity arrived. I remember booting a live CD with Edgy and getting an xserver error. On a plain radeon X1600 card. Bang! Instant failure for the eyes of the average user. And what about the PulseAudio mess that broke most Ubuntu PCs after the upgrade? Which by the way happened just when Dell was starting to embrace Ubuntu... Oh, and countless X.org breakages with graphics cards over the years, so many that fangirl nixiepixel over at youtube has a video tutorial to fix the mess manually.
It hurts me to say it, but Linux (not just Ubuntu) is not OK for the average user (= my mom, dad and sister). Unless someone manages to convince the graybeards and script kiddies behind X.org and PulseAudio to stop breaking things at a whim, or to replace them with better alternatives, Linux Desktop is not ready. Compatibility is important.
Sorry for the strong language, but I am a Greek and I do not like to flower my words.
