There are a few nethack kind of games, but nothing like AD&D or Ultima, which to me seem simpler to make than all those 3D and pseudo-3D games.
The AD&D combat system was very advanced and the battlegrounds were very large. Ultima VI's battle system was nice, but much more limited in attacks 'n' spells although I prefer Ultima's way of moving about (outside of battle) compared to AD&D's 3D dungeons (too lazy to make maps).
