Yeah, the fake-3D, first-person perspective of the AD&D games was annoying. But nothing comes close to the battles.
I don't mind the isotonic (sp?) pseudo-3D of the later AD&D games (like Icewind Dale). I just can't stand the realtime combat. It doesn't work for parties of more than 2 characters fighting more than 2 characters. Adding a "pause" feature doesn't make it any better.
I can't believe that no one has remade the old turn-based RPGs for touchscreens. Even NES classics like the Dragon Warrior games would translate well to iOS/Android. And remakes of the AD&D games without the pseudo-FPS travel would port really well.
Alas, it seems we're all doomed to drown in tower defense spinoffs and remakes of gorillas.bas.
