I'm no expert on the matter, but I've heard a lot of bitching about the dumbing down of Final Cut Pro X. The rest of the apps you mentioned IMO are leftovers from a time when desktop Windows was the thing to beat. As for the editing capabilities of iPhoto ... please ...
I don't need MS Office, maybe you don't need MS Office, after all LibreOffice is pretty good and free, but in the actual office, people will use MS Office for the foreseeable future.
