I use a computer everyday, for most of the time that I am awake
Geeks are atypical. Generally, people are very bad at gauging such stuff by themselves (for example http://plan9.bell-labs.com/wiki/plan9/Mouse_vs._keyboard/index.html or how some people swore by trackpoints - but actual research shows them to be inferior to touchpads: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointing_stick#Comparison_with_touchpa... & http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=18522893 ).
And the news is not talking about large screens far away, but specifically laptops.
